Christopher Graham reports: “These signs are everywhere on Hotchkiss Road on the Lanier side of the Alapaha River.”
Please note this is not the Alapaha River Wildlife Management Area off of US 319 between Tifton and Ocilla. That Alapaha River WMA is way upstream of the top of the Alapaha River Water Trail (ARWT), although it is on the ARWT map.
These new WMA signs are in the middle of the ARWT on this 266 acres in Lanier County parcel 043 0005A between US 84 and Hotchkiss Road, on the east (left) bank of the Alapaha River.

Chris Graham saw no signs on the Lowndes side of the river, where 124.59 acres are owned by the same Acree Investments Ltd., in parcel 0259 030A.

Chris Graham added:
So the landowner signed a two years lease with the DNR to see how it will go. This section of the river is now a WMA hunting area.
I’ve found nothing on the GA DNR websites nor any news stories about this WMA.
I also don’t know what “A Federal Assistance Project” means for a Georgia WMA. I will inquire. If anybody else already knows, please let us know.
